Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to set-up machine
   • Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements and workplace procedures for a given work area are identified, obtained and applied
2. WHS/OHS risk control measures for work preparation are followed
3. Work instructions are obtained and applied
4. Advice is sought from the work supervisor to ensure that work is coordinated effectively with others
5. Materials required for the work are obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
6. Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out the work are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety
   • WHS/OHS risk control work measures are followed
7. Machines are checked and isolated in accordance with WHS/OHS and workplace procedures
8. Electronic components are selected sorted and placed in accordance with work instructions and workplace procedures
9. Machine is set up in accordance with work instructions ensuring specified components are loaded correctly
10. Solutions are used to resolve issues with supply of component
11. Quality and inspection checks are conducted to ensure components comply with workplace procedures/relevant industry standards
12. Work is completed in acceptable timeframe given environment and workplace conditions
    • WHS/OHS risk control measures for work completion are followed
13. Operational checks of machine are carried out in accordance with workplace procedures to ensure quality outcome are met
14. Work report forms/data sheets on components are completed in accordance with workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two separate occasions and include:

adhering to quality check procedures applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (WHS/OHS) requirements, including using risk control measures checking and isolating machines completing work reports conducting machine operation checks following assembly job specifications identifying components obtaining materials for work obtaining work instructions preparing to set up machine setting up machine.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

relevant industry standards relevant inspection methods relevant manufacturer specifications and operating instructions relevant job safety assessments or risk mitigation processes relevant tools, equipment and testing devices relevant WHS/OHS legislated requirements relevant workplace documentation relevant workplace instruction, quality, policies and procedures object-oriented programming language elements, including: classes objects instantiation fields methods constructors inheritance.
